When 2020 started I don't think anyone would have ever guessed how crazy this year was going to be;I know I sure didn't. I was excited for a new age "Roaring Twenties" with flapper dresses, men in suits, jazz...a girl can dream, haha! Unfortunately we got a whole different side of the '20s! Who knew how drastically things would change over a couple very LONG months. As a photographer over the months that all of this transpired are normally when I would be advertising mini sessions for different seasons and holidays, chatting with families for sessions, photographing seniors, planning with brides and grooms for their weddings, photographing births and newborns. That all came to a screeching halt when this pandemic began.

So many people's lives have been turned upside down with the Covid-19 Pandemic and I've been racking my brain on how I can help others, aside from staying safely at home, and while also being able to do what I love. Recently a good friend of mine started a Facebook group called "Adopt a Senior" for Pasco County Florida. The community really came together and started "adopting" these seniors by sending gifts for these poor kids who have missed out on so much from the last months of their senior year of high school.

It has been AMAZING to see everyone pitch in which helped me figure out how I, as a photographer, could help the seniors and families in my community, while practicing safe social distancing- Porch Portraits! I've seen photographers in other states do this and LOVED the idea! It's a great way to be creative and a nice distraction for families! It's really important to document this time in our lives as well which is where I come in. I shared my idea in the Facebook group and was blown away by the response! My phone was blowing up with messages from parents wanting to do this for their children and so many saying it has really brightened their kids day and given them something to look forward to! Which honestly that is the whole point, we need something to look forward to during this difficult time and if that is something I can give these kids and families and it is the very least I can do!

Right now I am limiting my sessions to Zephyrhills, Dade City, and Wesley Chapel area which is close to home for me and I would love to continue helping other familes document this crazy quarentine life. Please feel free to reach out to set up your session.

Below are a few sessions I've done so far.

What To Wear To A Family Session | Tampa, Florida | Children’s & Family Photographer What To Wear To A Family Session – My 5 Tips to Help You Out

Samantha George Photography | Tampa, Fl

I think for some, this is a hard question to answer. If you find yourself scrolling through Pinterest at 1 am, hoping you’ll come across something that sparks your interest, then this post is for you.  Here are my 5 tips, that I think can help while you put together your family’s outfits.

1. Decide on a color palette

Deciding what colors you want to wear is the best place to start. One easy keyword or phrase to search on Pinterest is, “Spring color palette”, or whatever season you are dressing for. This will give you an idea of what colors work best together. My favorites are: grey, white, beige, olive green, and navy blue (think earth tones).

2. Start with one piece and build around it

If you happen to find your daughter’s dress first, then build the rest of the outfits around that one. That makes the whole process a lot easier to tackle. If Dad is wearing stripes, then your son could wear a solid color shirt etc. Mixing colors and patterns is a great way to help your session feel like you and give it some dimension.

3. Coordinate outfits instead of matching

Having everyone match perfectly tends to look dated, and pictures seem to lose dimension.  Choosing neutral colors with different patterns and textures will photograph best. Adding a pop of color is perfectly fine too, but you’ll want to be careful with what colors you chose.  Avoid colors that are considered “hot” or “neon”. They leave a color cast on the skin that is really hard to edit out. Also try to avoid anything with writing or Brand names like "Nike".

4. Consider your location

If you are shooting this years session in a field of green grass, choosing a solid green dress might not be the best idea. Remember that grass can reflect and leave a strong color cast on lighter skin tones.

5. Picking accessories

Less is always more. Adding a simple bow or headband is very flattering to young girls. Little boys always look adorable in a bow tie or suspenders. Here are some other accessories to consider:

bow ties

bows or headbands

knee socks for girls

necklace or bracelet for mom

flower crown

non-baseball style hats

By no means are these rules for any session. These are just my suggestions, that in my opinion, photograph well. If all else fails, reach out to your photographer and ask for help on how to work with what you have!

Kyle Family A Beautiful Family + Gorgeous "Golden Hour" light = PERFECTION!

These cuties were such a blast to work with! And just check out these adorable outfits!!

OMG... These two {SWOON}

I absolutely love capturing the love between a mama and her babies, there is nothing like it...
Dads aren't always the most comfortable in front of the camera so I do what I can to make them feel at ease and able to be themselves to show that sensitive side. These moments just speak to me!

I just love helping my mama's feel super confident! So many mom's avoid pictures or hide behind their little ones but its so very special and important to be comfortable in your skin and be in this moment with your children. They will want these pictures someday and so will you!

One of my favorite things about sessions with children is catching them in these candid moments of them being their full selves. No posing, no faking smiles, just being children.

Maternity Session with Brittany Brittany's husband is deployed over in Japan and will hopefully be home just in time for their baby girl to be born. In the meantime Brittany wanted to do a maternity session and incorporate her husband's Navy hat into a few shots. Really pleased with this session, I always love doing Maternity! Brittany and I both LOVE classic Black & White images so a majority of her session ended up that way but I had to through a few beautiful color shots in the mix to give that soft pregnancy feel and I love how they turned out!

Jamie Shea Jamie was born with Congenital Scoliosis. She didn't begin to have too many issues until she was about 13. She has seen an orthopedics surgeon since the age of 15 months. Jamie has undergone three mils surgeries (club foot, tethered spinal cord as well as surgery to stop the growth of the femur) all Scoliosis related. It was about two years ago that Jamie started experiencing more pain than she could handle. At that time Jamie and her mother, Deanna were in search of an Orthopedic physician they could trust. After three, they finally found a physician in Miami who was an absolute God send! They scheduled the surgery for October of 2013. Jamie ended up having an 11 hr surgery and made it thru just fine until two days later she lost all movement as well as feeling in her legs. The MRI showed a piece of bone had gotten loose and lodged in her spinal canal. Emergency surgery was performed and again she came out fine. The next day she had the physical therapy team come in to get her out of bed. Jamie went to sit up and got excruciating headaches. Come to find out, she was having spinal fluid drainage and experiencing spinal headaches. She had to stay flat on her back for four days straight until they subsided. Putting her farther behind in recovery. Losing strength was the biggest problem because her muscles started experiencing atrophy. 2 more days passed and Jamie was ready to walk. She had zero strength so the Ortho doctors made her braces for her legs. Again, three days later Jamie's incision started looking red and  was oozing. She was getting a staph infection. Another emergency surgery was performed. According to Deanna, her mother, this was the toughest part of the whole experience. Jamie was so weak and the doctors were worried. Three hours of surgery again set her even farther behind with walking. After weeks of strong antibiotics from the infectious disease doctors, Jamie was beginning to show progress. After a five weeks in the hospital Jamie and Deanna returned home. Luckily Deanna works in physical therapy and they worked every day to get her strong. She's come so far, yet has so far to go still. Her mother says "She's such a strong lil lady. She is my hero, my strength and my idol. This girl is one tough cookie. God had put her to the true test and she came out shining. What a way to spend her 18th birthday... in a hospital bed. It's getting better, but it really took a lot out of her. "  During our session Jamie was a real trooper, smiling every step of the way. She really is a strong, beautiful young lady and it was such an honor to be able to work with her.

For more information about Congenital Scoliosis:

Congenital scoliosis is a sideways curvature of the spine that is caused by a defect that was present at birth. It occurs in only 1 in 10,000 newborns and is much less common than the type of scoliosis that begins in adolescence.

Children with congenital scoliosis sometimes have other health issues, such as kidney or bladder problems.

Even though congenital scoliosis is present at birth, it is sometimes impossible to see any spine problems until a child reaches adolescence

2015 Wedding Special So he popped the question and you set a date, now what? Well now would be the perfect time to find your photographer! I know, I know...usually the first thing us girls think to look for is our dress but to be honest with you, coming from a married woman, the dress is important but so are your wedding pictures! After all is said and done your cake will be eaten, the DJ will be packed up, the dress will be put in storage, and all the little beautiful details of your wedding will either be given away, thrown away or again, put in storage. All that will be left from your special day is the memories! Finding a wedding photographer that fits your style and needs is so important and you shouldn't settle for anything less! You may think "man these packages are a bit expensive, do I really need a professional, can't I just ask my friend or uncle who owns a nice camera?" Well you can, but I would suggest it. Chances are they don't know a whole lot about wedding photography and will end up partying right along with you and might miss all those important moments and details that you want to hang onto. I would love to be able to capture those moments for you! Because, hey, It's what I do! :)

Right now is the time to book because I am running this awesome booking special for a limited time! If you or someone you know is getting married in 2015, I am giving away a FREE, that's right, FREE Engagement session along with a high resolution 11x14 print from the session to any couple that books their 2015 wedding and joins the SGP family by Dec 31st, 2015! If you would like to see if your date is still available please email to take advantage of this limited time offer!

What type of Photographer are you? What Type of Photographer are You?

Can I just start out by being completely honest? Being a photographer can really suck sometimes. It is a TOUGH business to get into now that everyone and their brother own a DSLR camera and label themselves a “photographer”. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE what I do! It can just get a little overwhelming when you start thinking about how many other photographers are out there. At that point you start to feel competitive and that can swallow you up if you allow it to and you start to lose sight of why you started this journey to begin with. I find that happening to myself quite a bit. I continue to remind myself that my only competition is the photographer I was yesterday and I do this because I love photography and I LOVE my clients, not to compete with other photogs. I struggle with determining what type of photographer I am and what type of photographer I want to be.

The way I see it there are 6 different types of Photographers: "The Know-it-all", "The Beginner", "The Hobbyist", "The Teacher"," The Supporter", and "The Critic". Most of us know which category we fall under (even though we may not want to admit it) and some of us may fall under more than one category at times.

The Know-it-all: This one is pretty self explanatory but to break it down it’s a photographer who, no matter how much experience they may have (sometimes it’s none), they think they know everything there is to know about Cameras, Lighting, Posing, Business, etc and have absolutely no problem telling you what you are doing wrong and how you need to do it without realizing there is more than one to do it all and every photographer has their own style, technique, etc.

The Beginner: A Photographer who is just starting out, is learning their equipment (which may just be their camera), isn’t sure what Photoshop is let alone how to use it and has a strong desire to learn everything they can and take on as many new clients as they can for FREE to build their portfolio. And more the power to them because it’s where we all started and there is no better way to learn than to practice!

The Hobbyist: A person who owns a digital or film camera and enjoys the art of photography or sometimes it’s that friend, brother, sister, aunt, uncle that owns an expensive camera who offers to shoot your wedding/portraits for free because “why pay so much for a professional? I can do it!” We all know a few of these ;)

The Teacher: An experienced and successful photographer who loves to help other aspiring photographers grow their business and teach them new techniques to grow their craft. They are extremely talented at what they do and are willing to share what they know to help others.

The Supporter: This one I think fits a majority of the photographers that I enjoy following on social media. They enjoy what they do and they like to support others who also enjoy it. They don’t get jealous of others success; instead they show their support by liking, sharing, commenting and showing the others love on their pages and websites.

The Critic:  This one could also be called the “haters”. I see this quite often when people comment and feel the need to leave nasty remarks about other people’s work which mainly reflects jealously but also downright rudeness. They don’t leave helpful comments or critiques to help someone grow and improve; they leave mean and hateful comments insulting someone’s work just because they may not be at the same level as the person commenting.

I don’t know about you but I’m no “know-it-all”. I started my business in 2009 and looking back, I can see how far I have come but I know that I am nowhere near where I want to be. I am constantly trying to improve. I would never act as if I’ve perfected the craft, when the fact of the matter is… no one has. There is ALWAYS something new to learn in this profession.

Which type are you? Which one do you want to be?

The moral of the story is: Don’t be so hard on yourself and don’t be so critical of others. We are all trying to make it in the crazy world. I think it is so important for photographers to band together and show each other support. We are not in competition. There is so much business out there for all of us to be successful!

So instead of putting someone down, lift someone up. Not only will it make their day, it may make yours as well.

The Shari Family "Family is a circle of Strength, founded on Faith, joined in Love and kept together by God, together Forever. "

The Shari family is a very special family.

Naomi and Ben, have always wanted to be parents. After several attempts to conceive they discovered their only shot at conceiving would be to do IVF. They saved up for several years to try for one session. While enduring this heartache, Naomi and Ben knew in their hearts they wanted to help children and they wanted to be foster parents. The very night they received their license they got a phone call about a 2 month old named Logan that needed a home. They accepted immediately and prepared for this baby to come into their home. A few months passed and they welcomed two more children into their home, a 3 year old and a baby girl, both of which were re-united with their families and they are still in regular contact. Shortly after this Naomi and Ben were called to the hospital for a new born just brought into the world that very same night. In June Naomi and Ben signed papers that state Logan is their son and 6 months ago they signed papers stating baby Noah is their son! They have another little one, only 6 months, and the path is being paved for Naomi and Ben to adopt him as well.

Through 7 years of pain and heart ache Naomi and Ben always said, “God knows what’s going on”. She had every reason to doubt and she didn’t. 7 years later they have a house full of boys and now are looking to adopt two more – Noah's biological brothers who are in a group home. 5 and 11 years old. Naomi's sister Tabitha nominated Naomi and Ben for my One Deserving Family Session Giveaway and she said "My sister is a mom. She has a family – something she thought she never would. It didn’t come the way she planned, but it came. She is a warrior, a lover, a pillar of strength and faith, and more importantly a mom. I nominate her for a family photo session. For Naomi there could be nothing better than having those pictures in her home, on her walls, and in the homes of her family"
I am so honored to be able to help a family so deserving fill their home with family pictures and hopefully in the near future take some more when they welcome more children into their wonderful and loving home!

Announcing.... Beach Mini Sessions!

I have been wanting to do beach minis for a few years now and I’m so excited to finally get some set up!  Here are a couple scenarios that would be perfect for the beach minis:

  • family pictures
  • little ones in bathing suits with beach umbrellas, playing and having fun

So here’s the scoop… High temps, and harsh light in the middle of the day, makes the early morning and evening ideal times to shoot. Not to mention, sunrise or sunset pictures on the beach are incredible!

Sessions are $150, 30 minutes long, and you will get 15 digital images. These images will be provided to you through an online gallery and available for print purchase immediately after being uploaded to my site. I’ll put your gallery on a disc and mail it out to you as soon as they are ready.

Best Locations: Clearwater Beach, Honeymoon Island, Fred Howard Park

Are you ready to sign up? Email me with the beach and time preference and we’ll get you on the schedule! Have questions, please contact me.  I suggest booking as soon as you can to make sure you get the day and time you would like. Half of your session fee is due at time of booking as deposit. The other half is due at the time of your session.

You can follow me here:

Also, I would love it, if you would share these minis with your friends and family! I couldn’t do this without your word of mouth and support, and for that I am ever so grateful!

Prints vs Digital Images Why some photographers do not sell digital images or sell them only at a premium price

Many professional photographers will not hand over that disc at a low price point. The public mistakenly believe it’s because these photographers have a desire to “hold your images hostage” but that isn’t the case in most instances. Most photographers are DEDICATED to the artistry of photography. What this means is that they are selling a full service experience and are dedicated artisans who either print those images for you themselves or entrust their favorite professional photography labs to do it for you. They are not selling a DIY experience.

Full service photographers care about the entire process.  They take time to ensure their images look as perfect as humanly possible, from the time of shooting (capturing that perfect moment!) to delivering a finished product (your image printed as a large 30×40 canvas or perhaps a custom album with beautiful matted prints for gifts!).  What this means is that the overwhelming majority of professional photographers take every step of the process seriously.  From the camera equipment and lens choice they shoot with at your session, to coming home and downloading your images and editing those images on a calibrated monitor (many photographers pay for special equipment and software to custom calibrate their monitors with their professional lab of choice, this can be a painstaking process for many photographers because not all professional labs print images the same).

If a photographer sells digital images this is where the process stops.  Sure they created and edited images and turned them over to you, the consumer.  So what happens now?  The final product is no longer tightly managed.  Chances are you don’t have access to a professional lab.  Chances are even greater that your monitor isn’t calibrated so when you view the images your photographer sent you…you’re already at a disadvantage.  Triple whammy that if the lab you choose hasn’t calibrated or changed chemicals in awhile… you can end up with prints that are completely awful.  All that for a set of professional images not worth displaying.

This unfortunately is the difference between beautiful images custom created for you painstakingly by your professional photographer and lackluster images printed up by the local drugstore.  The photography may be phenomenal but if your lab processing is off the image may as well be taken by an iPhone camera!

The full service photographer is an artisan.  They want to retain the image to present you with the absolute best quality image possible.  The image they create for you is part of their vision and this vision is only fully realized when you take delivery of your beautiful photographs.

Digital Files May Not Be the Right Answer

Photography has become commonplace, virtually everyone loves taking photos and most people do a pretty decent job at it.  However there are times when you want to hire a professional photographer to create extra special images for your family.  You want to display some incredibly beautiful, emotive images that capture who your family is at this moment in time, you want those photos to represent something spectacular, you have this vision of gorgeous albums, a stunning framed portrait in your foyer, an outstanding gallery wrap canvas hanging over your fireplace mantle.

Framed Digital Image

You begin calling to interview photographers and inevitably you explain to them that you want to print these images yourself.  You’re looking for the photographer that will create those beautiful, evocative images for you, unique to you and your family and you want them to hand over the images for you to print.  Somehow you’ve come to believe that getting the disc of images is best because you control the process and it’s cheaper to print yourself.

What?!  Come again?

This scenario is very representative of the photography market today.  Somehow people have been brainwashed into believing that digital files are the best option when, in fact, they are not.  Digital images are MEANT to be is a temporary method of storage: all too many things can go wrong with digital media leaving you in a lurch with a ton of images that were never printed; images that will never be displayed in your beautiful home; images that will never be archived and made permanent.  Lets face it, for many people, after you get back your disc from said photographer, the disc goes in the drawer to never see the light of day…maybe JUST MAYBE to be unearthed (if you’re lucky) in a year or two with an “I meant to print some of these…” utterance.

Let’s say you don’t bother printing up those photos for yourself and those images stay in the drawer for a period of time.  Perhaps these images are of your newborn baby girl at 7 days old (and now she’s 12 going on 13 yearsnot months, old!).  You want to create something really special for her 13th birthday so you finally take that disc of images out of that drawer and put it in the CD tray of your computer to get them printed. In the CD goes as you wait…and wait.  No images found.  Hmmm…  Pop out that CD tray, make sure the CD is inserted and again…waiting…waiting.  In reality your images went  POOF!  They are nonexistent.  This particular CD-R from your daughter’s newborn session doesn’t even show any data on it!  There is no data on this disc!!  Now you’re freaking out.  So then you call the photographer to order another disc from them to get to your home ASAP but when you call the number it is no longer a business number.   Then you go online to find that photographer only to find that they are now out of business!  You have no way of getting a hold of that photographer and you had all these amazing images of your daughter you want to print an image for her for her 13th birthday and there aren’t any!!  Your scrambling because now you’re sufficiently freaked out.  You went to this photographer for the first two years of your daughter’s life, frazzled and more than a bit freaked out you start pulling CD-ROM out for each and every session from those two years and poof!  one after the other the images on each of those CDs has somehow disappeared!  It’s the photographer’s fault!  It’s a defective disk!  The photographer is a scam artist!  A thousand thoughts whirl in your head when the sad reality is:

Sounds implausible?  It isn’t.  It’s actually a well known fact that CD-ROM and DVD-ROM discs are not meant as a long term storage solution.

But wait!!  That can’t happen to you…your photographer doesn’t burn images to a CD!! So this scenario isn’t possible.  The photographer you use, well they’re smart (and so are you) for choosing to put images on a USB key.  Those have to be fool proof – right?!

No.  USB storage is a very recent phenomena and knowing how technology evolves chances are that the USB storage key you received from your photographer will go the way of the floppy disc within ten years, give or take.  Think hard now, when is the last time you’ve seen a computer with a working floppy drive?  Can you guarantee you’ll still have a working computer with a USB port in ten years?

More on the topic of things you haven't seen in awhile…

“Oh but I didn’t just LEAVE those images on the USB key…I also downloaded them to my hard drive!”

If I had a dime for every hard drive failure I’ve heard about I’d be at least $100 richer or AKA The Story of Some Sad Photographers

Do the math.  That’s a lot of hard drive failures.  And they’re very real and scary.

But you need not worry, you have multiple copies of your images on multiple hard drives scattered far and wide, right?  Yeah well…

A photographer friend (who shall remain nameless) hadn’t printed up any images of her young children in several years.  She decided since they were taking a long trip away from home that “now’s the time to get editing and printing.”

Off they went on their trip, planning on working hard on getting up to date with her photos she did the smart thing: she brought along her laptop, her external hard drives and the back up drives on vacation with them on vacation.  You know…so she could do catch up, get some editing done, get some images tuned up and ready to order.

A few weeks into the trip, all seems good, right as rain, she’s excited because many of these images were of her youngest when she was super little and she didn’t have any prints from this time in her life.  She’s finally going to get them printed.

She kept her equipment locked up and secure when they were away but somehow someone knew to break into the place where she was storing said equipment (hard drives and back up drives) and someone took it.  EVERY last bit of it.  Every drive, the laptop, everything.  Can you imagine how awful that felt?  To lose all those memories?

That’s a tough lesson to learn.  I mean she did do the right things mostly, right?  She had back up drives of her images…but yet this method still failed her EVEN without the hard drive failure!

Years of images GONE.  Zero printed copies of these long gone moments.  Probably stuff like baby’s first bath, baby and big sister playing in the bath tub, playing dress up, baby’s first steps…the list of lost images is heart wrenching.  Had she had the prints at least she would still have the prints, I’m pretty sure prints are zero value to a petty thief but they are invaluable to the memory holder.

That story is 100% real and it’s 100% sad and there’s a hundred more like it: hard drive failures, power surges that mess up operating systems, house fires that ruin computer equipment.  More theft (in homes).  A lot of what I’m illustrating happened to those who do and should know better: photographers!

I bet they won’t have to learn that lesson twice.

So what you’re saying is digital files are bad?

No.  To the contrary what I am saying is this.  Think long and hard about basing your photographer choices based upon availability of digital files and/or price.   What you’re making the investment in may not be what is truly the best option for you: digital files are great if you plan on using labs that you know for a fact can reproduce images to what your photographer saw on their screen when they edited those images, if your photographer sells digital files then they should recommend to you a lab that can do a decent job.   HOWEVER know this: to get the best quality images from your session you really should think about having your photographer control the printing process simply because your photographer has access to labs that can accurately reproduce images to their standards.  I assure you most photographers are so ridiculously strict on what they deliver to a client you’d really be surprised how many images don’t pass our muster and have to be redone.  A true professional photographer CARES about the quality of the images that hang on your wall because THEIR name is on those images, maybe not physically so but that is their life’s work up there.  They want your friends and your family to be wowed by the gorgeousness of their work, it only serves them to do so.

(READ Why some photographers do not sell digital images or sell them only at a premium price at the top of this page for details on what calibration means in the professional photographer world)

Quality should trump quantity every time.  Often photographers receive the questions regarding digital files and then “How many images do I get?” What a silly question really.   Unless you plan on wall paper plastering your walls with photos from your session the question shouldn’t be: ”How many images do I get?”  but  ”How much will I love my images?”  ”Will I want to display my images?”  The answer should be yes.  The photos you put on display in your home should reflect the character and beauty of your family and be captured in the best manner possible and should be reproduced on fine quality professional photo paper or canvas.

A wannabe-hobbyist photographer may say: “You’ll get 50 images (and based on the law of averages) you’ll like some of them.”

A true professional photographer will be confident in their skills enough to say: “You will love your images, all of them.” and assure you the images captured at your photography session will be of the finest quality, reproduced in print on the finest paper by the finest professional labs available to them.

From Samantha George Photography:

I've had people over the years ask why I don't sell or include CDs/discs of all the edited images with my portrait packages. I've also had questions about high resolution and low resolution images and what the difference between them is and how it can affect your prints. I do offer a disc with most of my sessions and a flash drive with every single wedding package. However the images will be in low resolution. Not only because of the size of the image to be able to fit them on the disc/flash drive, but also for the purpose of offering you the highest quality artwork.  Most people want the discs/flash drives so they can take the images that I create to Walgreens, Walmart, CVS, or some other printing place that will give them the cheapest possible prints. The problem with that is you will be taking them to places that do not specialize in quality prints and photo products. These places are all about cheap materials at a cheap price and doing them as quickly as possible. Believe me, I've been there, needing something quick and as cheap as possible but when it comes to your memories that is NOT the way to do it. You don't come to me and have me capture these important moments in your life only to print them on the worst possible prints. You should proudly hang these memories on your walls as artwork!

How it works when you have a session or wedding with Samantha George Photography: After your session I work diligently on your images, creating images you can fall in love with and want to keep forever. After they have been processed I will upload the high resolution (the best quality of the images) to my website into your personal online website which you can use to view, share and/or purchase products from. If your session includes prints you will then pick the images you want to use for your prints and I will prepare them for order with a professional printing lab that deals with only professional photographers and produces the best and highest quality prints. I then choose the best images for your disc/flash drive and these are low resolution which is perfect for sharing on Facebook, emailing to family/friends but the size of these low res images are not ideal for prints especially at inexperienced labs like the ones I listed above. I do not do this to be cruel or greedy so that you are forced to buy prints from me. I do this, for you, for your memories and to protect the quality of my work. Believe me, you won't be disappointed.

I hope this post answers all of your questions and eases  your worries when ordering prints.

I use to work with Nicole and I've taken Emma's photos quite a few times and from the very first time I met her I fell in love! She is one of the sweetest little girls I have ever met. Sadly Emma was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) on May 11th 2013. She has gone through a lot during this time and continues to received Chemo at Shands Hospital at University of Florida. When the medications she is on isn't affecting her mood she stays in high spirits and is still the amazing little diva she always has been and lights up any room she enters. If you would like to follow Emma's story and journey like her Facebook page here:

What to wear Below is a comprehensive “what to wear guide” by photographer/designer Corinna Nielsen. Also make sure to check out my Pinterest page for inspiration and ideas.

Coordinate outfits

Now this doesn’t mean everyone has to 100% match with khaki pants or jeans and a white shirt! You want to complement each other’s outfits by choosing colors that work well together. I find that if everyone is wearing the same clothing, people will all tend to blend in together and there won’t be too much pop and life to the images. Coordinate VS. Matching…. let’s not get cheesy!

Use colors & patterns

Colors are everywhere around us and bring things to life… why not bring your images to life as well! Again, be sure the colors you use coordinate with each other and you don’t just end up looking like one big rainbow family! When picking patterns, choose smaller ones that won’t distract attention away from the main subject/s. Use patterns sparingly…. if one person is wearing a print, try to avoid putting someone else in a competing pattern. When thinking about texture, choose different ones that will give photos some interest such as lace, corduroy, denim, etc. Avoid large logo’s, emblems and graphics like “GAP” and “Old Navy” because again, these will typically distract attention away from the subject. We want your faces and emotion to show, not promote the clothing company you purchased from!

Be timeless

For some fashionista’s, this may be a difficult concept, however you are going to want these images to stand the test of time. Pick outfits that aren’t t considered too trendy, but will be able to be enjoyed and displayed for many years to come. One example of something that is timeless is jeans… classic look and style yet you can still incorporate your own flair into the outfit with your tops and accessories. Still be YOU, never forget that!

Let your personalities SHINE

Perhaps the most important “rule” in my book. The purpose of these photos is to hopefully capture each individual as they truly are, to capture the family, the relationships, and people in the photos just as THEY are. Forcing children to wear outfits that are uncomfortable and unfamiliar to them may cause some anxiety and stress to them which in turn will inhibit really capturing their personalities during the session. Same goes for adults. Wear clothing that YOU feel good in and the pictures will emanate those feelings. If your child wears a pair of rain boots everywhere he goes, it makes the most sense to have him wear them for pictures as well. Remember, you want to capture everyone as they are NOW. Capture these moments as they are!

Dress for the season & location

Obviously you want your images to make sense. One typically wouldn’t be wearing jeans, boots, and a jacket to the beach in the Summer so why would you for pictures? Dress the part and be aware of your location. For example, if you are shooting at the beach, ladies wear a pretty dress and sandals, put dad in a short sleeve shirt and shorts OR pants (which you can also roll up), put your little girl in a sweet Spring or Summer dress, etc. You will want to make sure that everyone is on the same page and coordinates in both colors AND styles.

One of my favorite “tips” for clothing choices! In the Summer months, this may be more difficult to pull off but during all of the other seasons, definitely layer your outfits. Not only will it provide more visual interest in each photo but it will also allow a lot more variety in your shots and poses. Have a ton of images of yourself in just your dress or cute top and jeans? Throw on a little sweater or jacket and a hat and you have entirely different look.

Personalize It

These are YOUR images and of course you want them to speak volumes about you and your family. Discuss things your family enjoys doing together and bring “props” and accessories that will help compliment who you are. If your family enjoys playing music together, bring your instruments to your session. If your family enjoys boating, suggest doing your session on a boat or at the very least near the water. Bring along items that will represent who each individual is AND who your family is collectively.

Remember where you came from

Typically, not something everyone will keep in mind before their session. However, I always encourage clients to think about their home, their decor, colors, and style of their homes. Chances are, at some point after your session, you will be ordering prints or digital files. Why not keep your your decor in mind and ensure that it all blends into your home. This will ensure that any large portraits will coordinate beautifully.

Plan ahead

Make sure you have given yourself enough time to think about all of the details of your session. Plan ahead so that #1 you can truly think about your photos and everything you want out of the session, #2 you aren’t rushing and stressing out right before your session, and #3 if you have decided to go for a new look for your session or someone gets a bad haircut, you still have time to fix things if you need to.

Keep make up natural, but still have some on

You will want to avoid using very heavy makeup, but a bit of color on your lips, eyes, and cheeks will help bring you to life in photos. Be sure to bring some lip gloss with you as well. Outfit changes If time allows it, bring another set of outfits. Again, you will get a lot more variety in your shots so why not capitalize on the opportunity and get the most bang for your buck!

Ladies & their shoes

Im all for a sassy pair of shoes, however they may make for a very long and painful session. If you plan on wearing heels, be sure to bring a pair of flats or flip flops that can help you get from point A to point B without any pain. You can just swap them out as you need to.

If I were building outfits for my family this is how I would do it:

Keeping your location and season in mind, start with one person. Don’t try and think of everyone at the same time. I find that mom or a little girl makes the most sense since they would typically be the ones wearing a print. So mom will be wearing a floral print dress (small pretty pattern that is). Now move on to the next person. You will be pulling colors from mom’s dress so begin to think about who in the family would look good in what colors. Dad doesn’t look so good in XYZ since it tends to drown out the tone in his skin. Let’s pick ABC for him instead. And so on. Then start to come up with ideas to personalize the session. A little boy may have a security blanket or teddy bear he never parts with…. be sure to bring that with you. The little girl may like crafting so have her make a cute matching headband or clip for her hair. Mom loves tulips… on your way to the session pick some up. Make thoughtful choices and be sure to discuss the ideas with your photographer! Believe me, most are full of ideas however, it’s always nice when the family helps and truly ensures a “custom” session.

I am more than happy to discuss your clothing choices, help you narrow down your decision or give you a direction to focus on as well as make sure that your clothing coordinates well with the locations chosen for your photo shoot. Not sure of a certain outfit? Text it to me!!! I am happy to help any way I can, so you can look your absolute best. I will also gladly come by your place and help you dig through your closet if you’d like.;-)

Newborn Session Tips for Parents
  • Parents wait to feed baby until you get to the studio while I set up; also keep baby awake 1-2 hours prior to getting to the shoot so baby will be sleepy. (tip-  give baby a bath to tire them out and keep them up until they arrive at the shoot. Also helps have hair soft and fluffy for photos)
  • Perfect time for a newborn session is first thing in am so baby will be in good mood and also more likely to sleep
  • This is a great time for you to sit back, relax and let me do my magic :)
  • Best time for newborn shoots is between the first 5-14 days of baby’s life. Anything after 10-12 weeks sleepy shots cannot be guaranteed. For older babies try to keep them up at least 2 hours prior to the shoot so we can attempt to get the sleepy shots.
  • Plan for a long shoot, these shoots normally takes anywhere from 3-4 hours.

Your Photographer Exposed I get asked alot how I got into doing photography and if it's always been something I wanted to do or just something I fell into one day. I've loved photography since I took a photography class in high school. As a child I would look at old photos and it always intrigued me. There's just something about a photograph. To be honest, never in my wildest dreams did I think it would be something I would do for a living. Even now I'm not doing it full time, although that is a goal I am steady working towards. I'm a working mother and wife like most of you; doing the 8-5 thing during the week and my true passion on the side until I get more experience in the business aspect and more clientele to keep me busy enough during the week to be able to help support my family. I have managed to set up a mini studio in my home to cater to clients that prefer an indoor setting , newborn shoots and when the weather isn't cooperating (which happens often living in Florida).

I've had quite a few people ask me if I've gone to school to learn photography and the answer is no. I am self taught all the way. I am still learning and will always be learning new things as new and improved cameras & equipment come out. Alot of people don't know the stresses of being a photographer and think it's the easiest job in the world and I am here to tell you that couldn't be further from the truth! Getting started for me was rocky. I had been told that I had an eye for it and always got compliments on my photos but looking back at my work from my first year I can see the difference and how far my style and photos have come and I hope to continue to advance in my work and skill. I still have my insecurities and concerns. I do my research before every session, wedding or event for new fresh ideas and that seems to help me feel more prepared and feel more confident but no matter how prepared you are it won't always go as planned and you have to improvise which sometimes end up being the best shoots.

When I first started I knew nothing about how to use a professional camera. I just picked it up and starting shooting. I googled different camera settings to use for each situation and tested them out to see what I was comfortable with and if it worked for my style of shooting. Some worked and some I am still trying to figure out. The more comfortable I get behind my camera the better my work turns out and the happier I am with the end results.

Connecting with fellow photographers has made a huge impact in my experience as a photographer. It's always nice to know someone is going through the same thing you are and have had the same struggles and can give you some helpful tips. I've made a few friends along my way and I do believe they each have contributed in their own way to how I've grown as a photographer. We may not all have the same style but we all have the same passion.

I've hit a few road blocks over the years, mostly financially, but I have not given up on my dream and refused to let anything or anyone get in the way of making it come true. Luckily I have the support of my husband, family and friends to get me through the rough patches that come with owning your own business and it means so much to me that they believe in me.

I will continue to push and work towards being a better photographer than I was yesterday....
